In 2015, California legalized assisted suicide for adults with illnesses of 6 months or less to live. Now, a Senator is pushing a bill to allow all chronically ill Californians to receive assisted suicide, as well as people with dementia. Right now, millions of Californians don’t have health care and can’t find doctors or hospitals. The State needs to ensure people have good and accessible healthcare so that people with chronic illnesses don’t feel coerced into dying prematurely. More information through the link.
The official portrait of Servant of God Niña Ruíz-Abad was presented April 7 during the opening of the diocesan phase of her cause for canonization at St. William Cathedral in the town of Laoag located in the Ilocos Norte region of the Philippines. Read more through the link.

Dr. Jeffrey Parola has been appointed music director for the Cathedral of Christ the Light, effective May 13. Parola comes to the diocese from the Church of St. Paul the Apostle in Los Angeles, where he has served as director of music ministry since 2021. Read more through the link.
The Archdiocese of San Francisco is hosting the send-off Mass for the Eucharistic Pilgrims at 11:00 a.m. on May 19, 2024 at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption. The Procession will walk from the Cathedral and across the Golden Gate Bridge. Bishop Barber will celebrate a Solemn Vespers Mass and Eucharistic Holy Hour the evening before, May 18, 2024 at 6:30 at Mission Dolores Basilica. Learn more through the link.
SB 1196 –End of life Option Act, will have a hearing on April 22 in Sacramento. This bill would eliminate the terminal illness requirement, the requirement that people requesting suicide be mentally competent and the requirement that the suicide cocktail be ingested. The Board of Trustees of Saint Mary's College High School announces the appointment of Azure’D Nunley ‘00 as President of Saint Mary’s College High School, effective July 1, 2024. Azure’D succeeds Lawrence Puck ‘78, AFSC who, after six years as President, will be stepping down at the end of this school year. Azure'D currently serves as Vice President of Saint Mary’s and has been with the Office of Advancement and Development since 2018. More info through the link.
