Statement from Andrew Currier, Superintendent
Diocese of Oakland Catholic Schools
"It is with great enthusiasm and anticipation that I announce the appointment of Karen Goodshaw to the position of Associate Superintendent for Leadership. Karen comes to the Catholic Schools Department after 14 years of service as principal of St. Perpetua School in Lafayette. Karen's talents and skill match very well with the expectations for this new leadership position, focusing on the development of principals, data-informed approaches to school improvement in terms of Catholic culture, academic growth, finance, and enrollment management. Additionally, Karen will oversee government funding programs and a marketing and branding initiative aiming to further strengthen enrollment in all Catholic elementary and middle schools in the Diocese of Oakland.
"Karen Goodshaw's wealth of experience in both public and Catholic schools will be a great benefit to our school leaders as she works with principals and pastors to find ways to strengthen school vitality well into the future. In anticipation of her new role, Karen offered, 'Working in Catholic education for the majority of my career has enabled me to deepen my own faith and relationship with God, while sharing my beliefs and values with the students entrusted to me. I hope to apply my diverse educational experiences to assist principals and school communities to fulfill the mission of Catholic education.'
"In addition to her leadership roles, Karen also taught at Holy Rosary and Christ the King. She holds a bachelor's degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, a master's degree from Cal State Eastbay, and teaching and administrative credentials through St. Mary's College. Karen's consummate professionalism and dedication to Catholic education are of immense value to the Diocese of Oakland and we are pleased her talents and experiences will continue in the service of the Diocese of Oakland's Catholic schools. She will begin in her new role on July 1, 2022."
