Pope Francis Issues Apostolic Letter on Ministry of Catechists

On May 11, 2021, Pope Francis issued an apostolic letter "Antiquum Ministerium" ("Ancient Ministry"), instituting the ministry of  catechist. The Holy Father emphasizes the importance of selecting, training and supporting catechists, who are called to lead people to a deeper relationship with Jesus and to prepare and educate them in the teachings of the Church.

As a diocese, we laud and support this important decision of Pope Francis in formally instituting the unique vocation of catechist. The work of the catechist is “a true and genuine ministry of the Church, which we particularly need” and this shows as well a greater awareness of our baptismal dignity.
