Citing an unsustainable decline in enrollment and diminishing reserve funds, Our Lady of Guadalupe School in Fremont will be closing after the last day of school on June 6, 2024. The announcement was made by Father Joy Kumarthusseril, MF, pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe School and Parish, in a letter issued Jan. 10, 2024.
Founded in 1964 as St. Leonard’s, the school was a key educational ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose until recently with the departure of the last teaching religious sister. “Our Lady of Guadalupe School has offered outstanding educational opportunities for hundreds of school children in pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade for almost 60 years," stated Father Kumarthusseril in the closure announcement. “The school is a place holding many fond memories for generations of students.”
The Diocese of Oakland’s Catholic Schools Department will be supporting families and staff in making plans for students, teachers and staff for next year. For more information, visit www.csdo.org.
