With Contra Costa County’s movement to a less-restrictive COVID-19 tier, churches are allowed to hold Masses indoors, at 50% occupancy or 200 people, whichever is fewer.
Bishop Michael Barber, SJ, welcomed the announcement, but warned that “We must all continue to be attentive to published precautions and protocols. Health officials caution that it is now more important than ever to follow the state health guidance for physical distancing and use of face coverings, to keep everyone safe and healthy during the holiday season and to avoid a return to the red tier.”
If a parish in Contra Costa County has already had its protocols reviewed and has received permission from the Diocese of Oakland to resume indoor services, the pastor may, at his discretion, increase attendance at these services.
