Bishop Barber Shares Story of Being Robbed at Gunpoint in Oakland (May 22)

On Pentecost Sunday, May 23, 2021, Bishop Michael Barber shared his story of being robbed at gunpoint the previous day in Oakland during his daily walk. He shares his story to bring awareness to the epidemic of gun violence. His personal experience comes 16 days after he shared his statement on gun violence “Let’s begin with a prayer to end gun violence”. ( Revisit that statement here)

Bishop forgives his attacker, as he knows Jesus would. Bishop Barber, along with faith leaders from around the community, participates in an ecumenical prayer vigil on the fourth Sunday of each month to pray for an end to gun violence. He also joins with Oakland’s St. Benedict Parish in regular Night Walks for Peace. We pray for the continued healing of our community and an end to gun violence.
