Every Sunday morning in Berkeley, members of the Bay Area Catholic community volunteer with Night on the Streets - Catholic Worker to feed a hot breakfast to those in need. First at People’s Park, then at the Berkeley Civic Center downtown, tables are set up with oatmeal, boiled eggs, toast with jam, coffee, and doughnuts. Bishop Michael Barber, SJ, often participates in this effort. Yesterday, the Bishop led a group of soon-to-be ordained Deacons from the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara, as they made sure everyone was fed.The effort to care for those in need in Berkeley is ongoing and survives on donations and volunteers.
