about the lifting survivors' voices mini conference
The Oakland Diocese is renewing its commitment to support survivors of clergy sexual abuse. The No More Secrets Ministry (NMSM) was formed by survivors of clergy sexual abuse in 2000 with the mission to provide an opportunity for personal sharing, prayerful reflection, and spiritual renewal. Now NMSM is joining forces with Catherine C. Fisher, LCSW, Interim Victims Assistance Coordinator to launch a new initiative called Lifting Survivors' Voices at the Oakland Diocese.
“We want to listen to a wider network of survivors,” she explained. The outreach to survivors has the support of clergy as well as Bishop Michael Barber, SJ. “I pray many survivors will take the brave step to attend this mini conference,” he said. “They can offer recommendations on how to provide a safe space for individuals to come forward and receive the support, validation and advocacy they deserve.”
