At Most Holy Rosary Parish, "Strength Thoughts for the week" are sent out to the Pastoral Council and to other key groups who have taken the "Living Your Strengths" Assessment or are interested in Stewardship. This provides continuing motivation to our groups. We keep the momentum going by continuing to inspire one another.
Thoughts for the week:
Building upon our strengths often starts with a willingness to take on a challenging task.
“Never be afraid to do something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark; professionals built the titanic.” Anonymous
Marian Wright Edelman said, “We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.”
Mother Teresa's words speak of sharing our strengths. "What I do you cannot do; but what you do, I cannot do. The needs are great, and none of us ever do great things. But we can do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful." Look at using your strengths in another way ---- what you have, what you are, your talents, your personality, your way of thinking - is unique. No one in the world is like you. Use these talents to make a difference in your life and in the lives of others. And remember that if we did all the things that we are capable of, we would quite literally astound ourselves.
"I believe that any man's life will be filled with constant and unexpected encouragement, if he makes up his mind to do his level best each day, and as nearly as possible reaching the high water mark of pure and useful living." — Booker T. Washington
When Donald Clifton, a leader in research and the "Father of Strengths" was asked what one strength that ALL of the best leaders shared. His response was "A leader needs to know his strengths as a carpenter knows his tools, or as a physician knows the instruments at her disposal. What great leaders have in common is that each truly knows his or her strengths - and can call on the right strength at the right time. This explains why there is no definite list of characteristics that describes all leaders."
We can all be leaders in whatever we do if we use our strengths to the best of our ability. Stop and think this week which strength you are using and if you are using it or the others in the way that fulfills God's will.
