The issue of race in America has escalated over the past many months … and we have heard many appeals to better understand the situation, the role each of us plays in it, and what we can do. At St. Joan, we’re taking steps toward doing that by introducing the first of three 8-week studies from JustFaith: Faith and Racial Healing: Embracing Truth, Justice & Restoration
In this study, we will explore the ravages of slavery in America, the Reconstruction Era, the 100 years that followed … and the traumatic impact that abuse and injustice had, and continue to have, on our black brothers and sisters.
This study will take us back to the roots of racism and injustice in the American church, giving us examples of the ways people of faith have actively worked against racial justice.
And, looking forward, we will identify the cultural and institutional tables that must be flipped to bring about progress and foster a more equitable and inclusive environment among God’s people.
Our opening Participants Retreat will be on Sunday, January 17 (MLK Day.) Study groups will meet weekly for eight weeks thereafter and are forming now.
If you can be a facilitator or can host a zoom call for a facilitator, or would like to join a small study group, let us know! For more information, contact Rosemarie McKenney.
