St. Anthony-Mary Help of Christians Parish in Oakland will celebrate the 150th anniversary on Saturday, Sept. 18 in St. Anthony Church. The celebration will begin with the blessing of two new statues – Our Lady of Guadalupe and Our Lady of Lavang – at 9:30 a.m.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. by Bishop Michael C. Barber, SJ.
The celebration will continue outdoors in the church parking lot, with entertainment and food of the communities who make their parish their home: Latino, Vietnamese, African American and Eritrean.
A parish history has been prepared, said Father Ghebriel Woldai, temporary parochial administrator. St. Anthony Church was founded in 1871. Mary Help of Christians was founded in 1915.
