BISHOP JOHN S. CUMMINS INSTITUTE FOR CATHOLIC THOUGHT, CULTURE AND ACTION, AT SAINT MARY’S COLLEGE OF CALIFORNIA
presents
“The Catholic Church and the Role of Women in Church Leadership”
The second Cummins Institute-sponsored panel discussion will take place on Saturday, April 17, 2021, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., which will complement the spring celebration of 50 Years of Women at Saint Mary’s. We are taking our cue from Pope Francis, in his recent encyclical on integral human development and solidarity, “The organization of societies worldwide is still far from reflecting clearly that women possess the same dignity and identical rights as men” (Fratelli Tutti, paragraph 23). The panel is part of a series entitled “The Voice of the Shepherd: Conversations about the Church in Dialogue with American Society,” and is meant to include the voices of all gathered in conversation, in the knowledge that Christ speaks through the church as a whole. The panelists for this conversation (listed below) will be joined by three SMC students, who will offer responses to the presentations. The speakers will then take questions from the audience. President James Donahue will moderate the event. Registration is required and free.
