Catholic Campaign for Human Development Collection Resources
The special collection taking place in parishes across the nation on the weekend of November 20-21 supports the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). Completing its 50th anniversary year, CCHD is the primary program of the U.S. Catholic Bishops for addressing the root causes of poverty and injustice in our country through funding non-profit organizations that enable low-income people to transform and improve their lives and their communities.
Your parish should have already received promotional materials, by U.S. Mail, from the CCHD national office, and others from the diocesan office that came by U.S. Mail and email that included:
envelopes
posters
bulletin inserts
bulletin announcements
intercessions
pulpit announcements
All these collection resources came in both English and Spanish.
We particularly encourage your pastor to make a special announcement or have someone read one of the pulpit announcements that were sent. It has been shown that second collections increase significantly when the presider makes the announcement and when the congregation understands what they are giving money to.
This year we are offering a great new resource to assist you in promoting this collection—our new 3.5 minute CCHD video. It features three of the CCHD-funded nonprofit organizations in the Diocese of Oakland and is available in both English and Spanish. We urge parishes to
Show the video to your congregation during mass.
Post the video link in your parish bulletin, on your website and Facebook page as well as sending it out by email to parishioners.
The links to these videos, along with the links to 30 second videos in English and Spanish, should have already been sent out to parishes. They will also be viewable on the CCHD diocesan website at www.CCHDEastBay.org.
For parishioners that have not yet returned to mass, they can donate online at www.CCHDEastBay.org. Checks should be made out to Catholic Charities, with CCHD noted in the memo line, and then mailed to:
