The 2024 Spring Girls' CYO Basketball season ended with playofffs in May. The playoffs saw close games with crowds packing the gyms as thrity-eight teams, 4th through 8th grades, played in the four day tournament, held at Moreau Catholic High School, Hayward, St Joseph Notre Dame, Alameda, and St. Leander, San Leandro. The weekend of play was capped by skilled weeknight final games.
The top two teams from each of the four CYO leagues in the western half of the diocese concluded their seasons with the playoffs.
In the fourth grade, St. Leo the Great, Oakland, won the championship over St. Joachim, Haward, 13-10. The champion in the 5th grade was also from St. Leo the Great School, over St. Joachim, 39-26.
In the sixth grade, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Fremont, won its first ever diocesean championship, beating Holy Spirit, Fremont, 21-17. This was the third time that the two teams had met, Holy Spirit winning the first two contests.
In the 7th and 8th grade divisions, it was teams from Transfiguration, Castro Valley, playing teams from St. Joachim. In the 7th Grade, St. Joachim won over Transfiguration, 44-31. In the 8th grade, Transfiguration won the crown over St. Joachim 30-18.
Girls CYO basketball is played in the easter part of the diocese during the winter months.
