Sister Dorothy Peterson, a member of the Faithful Companions of Jesus, has been appointed as Victims Assistance Coordinator for the Oakland Diocese, effective Aug. 2.
A member of her religious order for more than 50 years, Sister Peterson has a long ministry in education, formation and spiritual direction. She holds advanced degrees from the Jesuit School of Theology, Boston College, St. Michael’s College in Vermont and Holy Redeemer Center in Philadelphia.
“Her lengthy experience in listening and accompanying, in spiritual direction and pastoral counseling, makes her a natural for the work of a victims assistance coordinator,” said Chancellor Rick Medeiros. She has also served as the primary point of contact for her religious community regarding safe environment and reporting abuse.
“As I look back over nearly 50 years in ministry, I can say I have been deeply enriched and often transformed by the people with whom I have been privileged to journey,” Sister Peterson said. “I hope to bring these experiences to those who come to our diocese, seeking healing and hope after suffering from abuse.”
