Effective July 15, 2020, Governor Gavin Newsom has extended the prohibition of indoor services to both Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. While awaiting clarification from the governor’s office, the Diocese of Oakland advises that Masses, baptisms, confirmations, weddings, confessions, funeral services and other liturgies may be celebrated outdoors on parish property only.
If it is not possible for a parish to conduct liturgies outdoors, priests are asked to livestream Masses without a congregation. Holy Communion may also be distributed outdoors, following diocesan guidelines.
Please check your parish website via our PARISH FINDER to find out if an outdoor or online Mass is available. Additional online Mass options can be found on our website, and Catholics are encouraged to devote time to prayer and reflection of the daily Scripture readings.
