The 2022 CYO Track and Field Season concluded in May with the annual Diocesan Track and Field Championship Meet. The meet was held after a two year CoVid pause with over 400 CYO runners participaing in a variety of running and field events.
The meet on Saturday began with a parade of athletes and opening prayer led by runners from St. Leo the Great School, Oakland. Following opening cermonies, runners from 41 parishes and Catholic schools aroung the diocese competed in events that included sprints, distance races, relays, long jump, high jump, softball throww, shotput and tetherball toss.
The meet began on Friday night at the Moreua Catholic High School, Hayward, track with the 1600 meter and 800 meter distance races. The meet then continued the following day at Granada High School, Livermore for the rest of the events.
Events were for 3rd through 8th grade girls and boys. Runners earned entry into the ciocesan meet by qualifying in each of three track sections. Each track section had a six week season prior to qualifying.
