Communities across Central America are reeling from the impacts of back-to-back hurricanes this past month. On November 3rd and 17th, Hurricanes Eta and Iota approached Nicaragua with winds reaching 150 mph before making landfall as a tropical storm in nearly the same place. The storms have dumped up to 30 inches of rain in some places causing landslides and heavy flooding, as well as severely damaging homes and infrastructure across the hardest hit countries of Nicaragua, Guatemala and Mexico. Across the region, Catholic Relief Services and its 13 local partner organizations are providing immediate relief efforts, including emergency shelter materials, water, sanitation and hygiene supplies, as well as longer term help like repairing homes and supporting the recovery of livelihoods. For more information, please see the attached emergency factsheets in English and Spanish, and/or contact the local CRS office at 510-768-3176 and [email protected]. Donations are needed and can be given online or by mail-- please go to www.crs.org.
