Dear Pastors, Parochial Administrators, Office Managers, colleagues, and friends,
We are entering the final gifts of the 2022 Bishop’s Ministries Appeal. As soon as the numbers have been reviewed, we will release the results. Thank you all for your support!
The theme for 2023 was chosen by Bishop Barber: I am with you always. You will immediately notice that this is the same theme that the Diocese is using for our 2023 Eucharistic Revival Congress later this year. To tie the two together, Bishop Barber’s thought was to use the “IHS” which is a Christogram of the name of Jesus, and the form of sunburst as indicative of the Eucharist. The IHS points to who is with me always. It connects Jesus’ name to the theme and keeps Christ at the center of our lives and work.
Once again, the parish goals for 2023 will remain the same. Bishop’s Ministries Appeal weekend will be March 11th and 12th. This schedule mirrors most of our peer diocese around the country. Beginning during the Lenten season allows us to call upon our parishioners to practice one of the three tenants of Lent, almsgiving.
To prepare for the appeal, we will be hosting 3 rollout training sessions. All sessions will be hosted via Zoom to allow for the best opportunity to attend, no matter your schedule. We encourage all those who have a role in parish management and oversite to be sure to attend one of the training sessions. Chancellor Rick Medeiros will begin each session with an opening prayer and his thanks for your past and future support.
The schedule is as follows: Monday, February 27, 2023 @ 10: 00 a.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2023 @ 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023 @ 11:00 a.m.
At each session we will have a presentation on the theme of this year’s appeal and the tools needed for a successful rollout to your parishioners. Appeal materials will be introduced at each session. The hard copies will be mailed directly to each parish.
Please RSVP with names and titles of all who will attend training sessions to our email at [email protected]
If you have any questions, please let us know. We are here to assist and support you as always.
With continued gratitude for your efforts, Giles Miller Director – Major Gifts & Campaigns Office for Mission Advancement Diocese of Oakland 510-628-2156 [email protected]
