You and I know the power and strength of prayer. Prayer has changed hearts and minds, guided people toward healing and reconciliation, and encouraged others to act with courage and humility.
I write to you today asking for you to share your prayer intentions with me. This year I especially ask you to share your prayer needs for those people in your life who may have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. So many have fallen ill or passed, and others have suffered losses of jobs, health care, housing, and so much more.
We remember material things are not so important – family and faith are what last. I will pray for your loved ones and for those individuals in need of special intercession, for our beloved Church, and for our challenged, yet hope-filled world.
During the Season of Advent, I will keep your intentions in my heart. Each day as I pray and celebrate the Holy Mass, your intentions are on my altar. At this special time of year, let us join in lifting our prayers to God, who loves each of us deeply.
Please email me with your prayer intentions. And may I humbly ask you to remember me, your shepherd, and all the priests of our diocese in your prayers during this holy season. In gratitude for your faith, I remain.
Yours sincerely in Christ,
The Most Reverend Michael C. Barber, SJ — Bishop of Oakland
P.S. I wish you all a happy, healthy, and blessed Christmas season, and peaceful New Year!
Let me pray for your intentions.
