| Department of Human
Resources
The Department of Human Resources is responsible for the
stewardship and management of our most valuable resource, the dedicated individuals who
minister to and for the Diocese of Oakland. Its goal is to provide tools, policies, and
resources to diocesan employees who lead, manage, and supervise, thus helping to insure
that the Church is both a just and an effective employer. To this end, the Department of
Human Resources serves the practical, legal, and procedural needs of human resource
management within the diocese, not just for the chancery but for diocesan parishes
and schools as
well.
The Department of Human Resources
coordinates recruitment efforts for professional and support positions, assures compliance
with personnel legal issues, orients new employees, keeps comprehensive personnel files, provides training and development opportunities, coordinates compensation
systems, assists managers with personnel issues, disseminates and evaluates
personnel policies, documents employee transitions and terminations, and
serves as a link to the Insurance and Benefits Office. For diocesan parishes
and schools, the Department of Human Resources offers resumes from
applicants for ministerial, school teaching and administrative positions,
personnel policy information and training in human resource management,
guidelines for the hiring and management of parish and school staff,
consultation on parish personnel issues, and compensation information.
Furthermore, the Department of Human Resources coordinates the Office of
Dispute Resolution to help settle personnel disputes throughout the diocese.
